Spiral Conveyors

Spiral and Belt

Spiral Elevator / Lowerator

If your fulfilment centre, warehouse or production facility is spread over multiple mezzanine floor levels moving products between floors manually can be both time consuming and adds inherent risks.

As part of CSL’s Multifloor conveyor range, the Spiral elevator conveyor, with its small footprint and continuous movement, is an ideal option.

Benefits of Spiral Conveyors

  • Slat width – Range from 200mm to 600mm
  • Heights up to: 20m (60ft) and beyond
  • Reductions in labour requirements and MHE costs
  • Constant movement of products between sectors
  • Reduction in health and safety risks – fewer MHE movements and operators carrying items downstairs
  • Small footprint compared to incline/decline belts starting from 1,240mm² footprint
  • Suitable for handling tote bins, case, bags, and other small to medium-sized items
  • High Load Capacity – Up to 50kg per metre

Frequently Asked Questions

A spiral conveyor is a conveying system that moves products vertically. It is ideally suited for limited spaces and multi-floor elevation requirements.

A gravity spiral conveyor uses the force of gravity to move products downward without needing external power sources

Our spiral conveyors can handle a range of materials. These include irregular items, cartons, boxes, totes, bags, and more.

Yes! Spirals are suitable for moving a wide range of product types securely. As they are moved at a shallow incline fragile items can be moved easily.

The speed of a spiral conveyor system depends on factors such as the conveyor’s design, the type of products being transported, and operational requirements. However, typical speed ranges are:

  • Standard Speed: 20 to 60 metres per minute
  • High-Speed Models: Up to 90 metres per minute
  • Custom Configurations: Some systems can be optimized for even faster throughput based on product weight and conveyor incline.
Spiral Conveyors

Spiral conveyors are unique material handling systems designed to move goods vertically or horizontally in a continuous flow. If space in your warehouse is limited or there are multiple storage levels, spiral conveyor systems provide an ideal solution for moving materials between levels. Spiral conveyors are a proven technology, and CSL has a wealth of experience designing automation systems with an integrated spiral conveyor belt.

How Do Spiral Conveyors Work?

Spiral conveyors are specialised conveyor systems designed to move materials vertically or at an incline while occupying minimal floor space. They consist of a continuous belt or chain that wraps around a central cylinder in a helical pattern, creating multiple tiers.

As the belt rotates, it carries items upward or downward along its spiral path. The steep incline is made possible by using flights or cleats attached to the belt, which prevent items from sliding backwards.

Spiral conveyors are powered by motors typically located at the top or bottom of the structure, driving the belt through a series of sprockets or pulleys. These systems are particularly useful in facilities with height restrictions or limited floor space, as they can efficiently transport materials across different levels.

Benefits of Spiral Conveyor Systems

Unlike traditional conveyors, which move items on a flat plane, spiral conveyors use a spiral configuration to transport materials more compactly and space-efficiently.

There are many advantages to using a spiral system as part of the overall automation solution, including:

  • Space–saving: Unlike longer inclined belts, a spiral takes up less physical space and is the easiest way to move goods and materials.
  • Flexibility: Spiral conveyor belts can be adapted to any warehouse layout and integrated with existing systems, providing total flexibility. They are fully reversible as standard.
  • Energy efficient: Spiral conveyors use a single-drive motor for continuous movement, making them more energy efficient than other lift products.
  • High throughput: Spiral conveyors can handle large volumes, increasing throughput and enhancing productivity.
  • Versatile: Spiral conveyors can be used in most applications, such as factories, fulfilment centres, e-commerce, and 3PL organisations, and can help improve the efficiency of your processes.
  • Adaptability: Multiple belt types are available to fit our spiral conveyor systems and your warehouse’s application needs.
  • Safe Material Handling: Difficult-to-convey materials such as bottles or fragile items can be safely moved on a spiral conveyor system with gradual slopes and smooth transitions, allowing for secure product handling.
