Conveyor Systems transfer technology to automotive industry
Conveyor Systems Ltd (CSL) was awarded a contract by a leading car manufacturer to design and supply a conveying system with twin and single trolley cars to transport up to 4-tonne cages of flat steel sheets to and from a hydraulic press for body panels. This system replaced an outdated AGV system to meet increased demands from the launch of a new vehicle.
The trolley cars were designed for a range of heavy-duty cages, with six sizes from 1 to 1.9 meters wide. Cages are moved from the de-stacker onto heavy-duty roller conveyors and fed to the press. The cycle time for loading, offloading, and returning took only 4.5 minutes.
The system was designed to be flexible, reliable, and allow clear access for maintenance. The twin cars can stop at five positions, using lasers for accurate positioning and operator safety. Control panels, flanged wheels, and solid steel shafts ensure accurate guidance, with third wheels for extra support. CSL worked closely with the customer to minimize disruption during installation and commissioning, providing an efficient solution to meet operational needs.
