Pukka Pads – Pallet handling/wrapping system
The Pukka Pad Group is a leading global manufacturer of a wide range of high quality branded and own label products including paper pads, notebooks, filing/ divider items, post/ packaging and art/activity products. Established in 1999 by founder Chris Stott, Pukka Pads has grown internationally and now supply Pukka brand and own label products to many countries around the globe.
The Brief
As part of their growth, Pukka Pads Group extended their Yorkshire Envelopes facility in Bingley by refurbishing an adjacent building to increase production and storage capacity. To improve efficiency, and safety, and reduce forklift movements between the two buildings, they sought automation. CSL was tasked with designing and supplying a fully automated pallet handling system. The solution included an automatic takeaway conveyor and a pallet stretch film wrapper capable of wrapping 40 pallets per hour, along with five palletizing points. CSL worked closely with Pukka Pads to ensure the system met their immediate needs and could integrate future automated palletizing.
CSL provided a high-specification pallet handling conveyor and wrapper solution for Pukka Pads, considering both technical and operational requirements. To ensure stability, all drives were controlled by inverters mounted in the main control panel, allowing smooth acceleration and deceleration. The conveyor system was designed to balance throughput with pallet module lengths up to 5 meters, minimizing the number of drives. It featured a pallet roller conveyor with powered triple chain transfer devices for controlled merging and transfer from five palletizing positions and included an automatic stretch wrapper with safety fencing and light guards.
